Where To Buy Crystal Deodorant

Applied to damp skin after washing, the Classic Natural Crystal Deodorant leaves a thin layer of natural mineral salts on your skin. These mineral salts are a natural deodorant and inhibit the formation of body odour on your skin, providing you with long lasting protection.

These mini crystal deodorant bars are so very handy, small size perfect for travel, works well, cruelty-free, plastic-free, fragrance-free, and last a very long time. I love it. I have used crystal deodorant for many years, the type with the plastic base, so happy I found these, it is so satisfying to avoid the non-recyclable hard plastic casing. Highly recommend!

I live in a very hot climate, and often after mowing/exercising/playing golf I will smell like someone has chopped immense amounts of onions or garlic directly into my armpits. I've been using this Bali soap deodorant for about a month now. I'm amazed every-time I should reek that I just don't smell like anything at all. I can't recommend this enough if you find yourself ever being stinky even through normal deodorant or antiperspirant. Also, these small bars seem to last a really long time, it hasn't even changed shape at all after a month of use.

Alum stones are a mineral salt in crystal form, made of a single ingredient: potassium alum. This is not the same chemical compound as the aluminum which is found in most conventional deodorants. Potassium alum has antimicrobial properties (which is a big part of why they work), and it has been used since antiquity. Ancient Egyptians used it as a dye, as a mordant in textiles and for tanning. Beginning in medieval times, it was used in medicine as a styptic for minor wounds and cuts. It is still widely used in water treatment, medicine, cosmetics, and even in food (in baking soda and pickling). You can find it at pharmacies as a styptic pencil for first aid, at barbershops as an aftershave, and in cosmetics as an astringent. It has been used as a deodorant for a long time as well, and ours has a smooth rounded shape that's easy to hold and easy to apply.

To apply as deodorant, simply wet the top of the alum stone and rub it onto your skin as you would any deodorant. Smooth it onto your underarm area until most of the water is absorbed, to create an invisible salt layer. Let your skin dry for a couple of seconds before putting on clothes.

The secret to making the crystal deodorant work is to make sure you're applying to clean skin! Before you apply, make sure you've either showered, shaved, or simply cleansed the underarm area with a little soap and/or hot water. Any of these will work, but the idea is to make sure you have no odor to begin with. The alum stone won't hide odor that's already there, but it can prevent any from appearing on clean skin! If you find it easier, you can also apply your alum stone the night before and in our experience it lasts through into the next day.

The alum stone mineral salt crystal can be a great spot treatment for oily complexions and acne prone skin. It's an astringent, which means you can use it to dry out problem areas or just tone and tighten your skin. Simply wet the top and apply to affected areas.

Yes, alum stones are a safe and effective natural deodorant. They're actually made of potassium alum which is different than the aluminum found in conventional deodorants, and they don't possess the same health risks. Regular antiperspirant deodorants usually contain either Aluminum Chloride, Chlorohydrate or Zirconium, all of which have known health concerns. The aluminum found in conventional deodorants is thought to be an endocrine disruptor which causes all kinds of hormonal problems and health risks. Potassium alum on the other hand is a mineral salt with a large molecular structure that sits on the surface of your skin rather than being absorbed. It is not a heavy metal and it doesn't disrupt your skin's microbiome. Rather, it is a gentle and effective natural mineral salt that is ethically mined in France.

We loved this Mind Body Green article on how crystal deodorants work and what dermatologists had to say. It links to some helpful research articles, too. The Environmental Working Group (EWG) deems it safe as well, which gives us peace of mind.

The beauty of a crystal deodorant is that it's also free from all the additives and ingredients that usually cause irritation, like parabens, phthalates, artificial fragrances and dyes. It is safe for sensitive skin and free of toxins.

Jerry Rosenblatt, Founder and CEO of Crystal, helped create the natural deodorant category in 1984 after discovering that mineral salts used to purify water also worked as a natural yet powerful hypoallergenic deodorant. That same year, Mr. Rosenblatt launched the company with a single product, Le Crystal Naturel, which continues to be sold on store shelves nationwide to this day. As demand for the product grew, Mr. Rosenblatt and his team began introducing new product lines and expanding distribution to retailers around the globe in order to satisfy the needs of the millions of consumers worldwide that are focused on healthy living. Today you can find the Crystal Body DeodorantTM brand products, along with over 25 other Crystal products, online, at major U.S. retailers, and across stores in Canada, Europe, Latin America, Australia, New Zealand, Asia, Africa and the Middle East.

Great product review. Saje deodorant is great. I stupidly switched to something else and got the worst rash of my life. I switched back to Saje two days ago and my poor, sore, itchy, swollen (yes, swollen) pits are finally feeling better. Also, if you are looking for a little scent, a single drop of lavender oil on the crystal will give a mild scent without being overpowering. You can buy some at Saje as well and its okay to use a drop without a carrier oil (or so they told me). I havent tried it yet because I want my armpits to heal completely first.

If you need to reapply between showers, just run an alcohol-dipped cotton ball over the area to get rid of any bacteria, and then apply your deodorant again (this rarely happens for me, even if I skip showering for a day).

Some people with major odor or sweat problems claim that switching to a crystal deodorant changed all that for them. I can say for sure that I have less body odor since I stopped using antiperspirants and started using crystal deodorant.

The aluminum in crystal deodorant stones is a different type of aluminum, called alum. The most common form is potassium alum, also known as potassium aluminum sulfate. Potassium alum (and other alums) is a natural mineral salt made up of molecules that are too large to be absorbed by your skin. They form a protective layer on your skin that inhibits the growth of odor-causing bacteria.

But in the natural space, brands have gotten creative largely because of the self-imposed restrictions on questionable actives and ingredients (necessity is the mother of invention, no?). Sure you have the natural brands that mimic the classic deodorant stick just with plant-based alternatives, but you also have herbal tonics you spray on, charcoal pastes you apply with your fingers, creams that come in squeezable tubes, and crystals. Uhh, what was that last one?

"As mineral salts such as potassium alum have natural antimicrobial properties, applying these can decrease the number of bacteria on the skin and therefore reduce odor produced by these bacteria," board-certified dermatologist Lisa Airan, M.D., tells mbg. However, unlike antiperspirants, these are not thought to disrupt the microbiome (however, more research is needed on this front.) As for sensitivities: "While any ingredient can irritate the skin, the fewer ingredients someone is exposed to, the less risk there is of an allergic reaction. Traditional deodorants contain more ingredients, which puts the patient at increased risk for skin irritation."

And listen: Everyone's body chemistry is different, so not everyone is going to respond to natural deodorants as well or in the same way. Ultimately, if you are curious about using mostly natural ingredients in general, making the switch to a deodorant is a worthwhile endeavor. It just might take time, trial, and error to find one that works for you. 041b061a72
